We can't have it all our own way. I put forward a few nominations in 2022 and I didn't get my way. I don't think anyone did. Not completely.
For those that had an attempt at trying to predict what the nominations would be, and subsequently had a go themselves, in the vPub of a couple of weeks ago - you'll have discovered that predicting the OSWAs isn't as easy as it might first seem.
Is that because we're fickle and often very different in our experiences and preferences? I think so. But I think it's also because there are simply so many choices today. In fact, if you think about it for too long you start to have concerns for all the great work that's being done in whisky and yet haven't been recognised in the nominations this year.
And so, it's little consolation I know, but while I have one more week of vPub biting-my-tongue so as not to trip over leading some of the nominations, I'll talk about this. Even after I do so, I bet there are still a ton of whiskies and producers that are left unmentioned. A shame for individuals, but a vibrant time for whisky in general.
Anyway, let's share a little love for those who missed out - this time. Would love to welcome you there!
