Ensuring that Filipinos can avail of quality and accessible healthcare services, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited the Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital (GRBASMH) in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on August 7, 2026.
The President inspected the hospital's new Dialysis Center in the Outpatient Department (OPD) and reviewed the implementation of the Zero Balance Billing (ZBB) program, which allows patients to receive covered medicines and services without out-of-pocket costs. He then proceeded to the Pediatric Ward, where about 15 pediatric patients were admitted, with two to three patients per room. He interacted with several young patients and their families. He also inspected the Obstetrics and Gynecology Ward, where he checked on patients who had recently given birth and were receiving care at the hospital.
According to GRBASMH records as of 4 August 2026, the hospital serves an average of 325 Outpatient Department (OPD) patients and 125 Emergency Room (ER) patients daily, with 95 inpatients.
President Marcos Jr.’s visit underscored the Administration’s continued efforts to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure and make healthcare more accessible for Filipino families by improving hospital facilities and expanding the Zero Balance Billing program, which helps ensure that patients receive essential health services without incurring out-of-pocket expenses.
