During our trip through Norway, we were lucky enough to spend a day tackling Via Ferrata Loen! This was our first via ferrata and we had a wonderful time. The entire Loen - Stryn - Olden area is incredible and should be on everyone's list of top places to visit in Norway.

We are highly experienced rock climbers with 10+ years of experience so we did not feel the need to hire a guide. We also did not use proper via ferrata gear. The only reason we felt comfortable with this is because we knew we would not fall; this was very easy for us. We did however feel like dummies for not bringing helmets.
The major benefit of going on your own is speed. We did not need to wait for anyone else in our group to catch up and we ended up passing 20+ people on our climb.
In the end, we climbed over 3000ft in 2 hours vs. 5-6 hours for a guided tour. That worked out very well for us!
