UNNG-TGG-3 (unnamed Tangled Geysers Group geyser)
Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano in northwestern Wyoming, USA.
“UNNG-TGG-3” is the catalog designation for an unnamed, fountain-type geyser in the Tangled Geysers Group of Yellowstone’s Lower Geyser Basin. The vent is at 44° 32’ 25.76” North latitude, 110° 48’ 17.44” West longitude on the September 2023 satellite photo on Google Earth (it’s at 44° 32 25.86” North latitude, 110° 48’ 17.40” West on the June 2016 satellite photo). The basin has enlarged in recent years. In 2016, it was about 2 meters across and somewhat irregularly-shaped. In 2023, its basin was about 6 to 7 meters across and irregularly-circular in shape.
UNNG-TGG-3 was seen having eruptions on 26 and 30 July 2017 - if it was active in previous years, it was just blipping. In August to October 2025, UNNG-TGG-3 was active again, with eruption durations between 30 and 60 seconds and maximum eruption heights of ~3 meters or higher. Reported closed intervals (= eruption start to eruption start) in 2025 ranged from 51 minutes to 115 minutes.
