Pink Geyser (2026)
Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano in northwestern Wyoming, USA.
Pink Geyser is a moderately small geyser in the Pink Cone Group of Yellowstone’s Lower Geyser Basin. Its geyserite buildup is low, irregularly-sculpted to nodulose, and “pinkish”-colored. The coloration has been attributed to manganese (Mn) impurities (I have never seen a citation to a published chemical analysis, however). Nearby Pink Cone Geyser and Narcissus Geyser have geyserite buildups with similar coloration. Eruptions of Pink Geyser usually consist of 5 to 9 minutes of splashing and jetting of slender sprays of water, followed by a moderately weak steam phase, which transitions to passive steaming. Intervals (= eruption start to eruption start) are irregular and range from a little under 2 hours to 13.5 hours (known from monitoring by electronic sensors). Closed intervals reported in 2025 ranged from ~3.5 to ~5 hours.
