Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano (northwestern Wyoming, USA).
UNNG-FTN-7 is a catalog designation for an unnamed geyser in the far-western Fountain Group of Yellowstone’s Lower Geyser Basin. In summer 2016, observed intervals (= eruption start to eruption start) ranged from 20 to 36 minutes long. Eruptions were relatively low, originated from two vents, were about 1.5 minutes in duration, and were followed by a relatively rapid pool drain. The geyser was not active when observed in early June 2017. In August 2017, eruption intervals ranged from 6 to 18 minutes. Briefer eruptions were followed by shorter intervals. UNNG-FTN-7 was seen active in early June 2018, January 2019, late May and summer and fall 2019, and in July-August 2020.
