Did you know the most accomplished pharmaceutical chemist in the world turns out to be nature? Nature’s specialized chemistry feeds us, cures our diseases, and provides many of the building blocks of our world. Now, through the rapidly advancing power of genomics, scientists are unlocking nature’s secrets and beginning to realize that we have vastly underestimated the staggering breadth of nature’s chemistry. In this talk, Scripps Institution of Oceanography marine chemical biologist Bradley Moore discusses how scientists are working to unlock the ocean’s code to cure disease and create a more sustainable future.

![SXSW Panel: The Quest to Capture Carbon and Bend the Curve
Carbon dioxide levels have been rising since the burning of fossil fuels began during the Industrial Revolution. This greenhouse gas is raising temperatures around the planet, altering the chemistry of our oceans, and destabilizing climate. New technologies are emerging to capture carbon and invent sustainable solutions to prevent worst-case scenarios. This panel at SXSW examined how scientists track carbon dioxide, the development of new tools designed to ‘bend the curve’ towards a more sustainable future, and the curiosity and collective action needed to get us there.
