🌅 Everyone’s favorite biannual event is upon us: Scrippshenge! Photographers flock to Scripps Pier to capture the magical moments when the sunset perfectly aligns between the iconic research pier’s pilings. But what’s the science behind this phenomenon?

We caught up with James Day, a Scripps Oceanography geologist and principal investigator of the Scripps Isotope Geochemistry Laboratory, to learn more about what goes on behind the planetary scene to get the stunning, perfectly aligned sunset of Scrippshenge.
