Want to explore the hidden Subnautica 2 developer area containing unreleased Scorpius Trenches content, unfinished alien structures, developer notes, future locations, and other in-progress assets?
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to install the Developer Area Enabler mod for the Subnautica 2 Experimental Build.

Developer Area Enabler was created by Reddit user u/Vast_Addition7794.
This is the same type of developer-layer access I've previously used to explore the unfinished Scorpius Trenches and reveal content that normally isn't visible to regular players.
The mod was created by Reddit user u/Vast_Addition7794, who originally discovered and shared screenshots of the hidden developer area.
And thankfully, installing it is extremely simple.
The Developer Area Enabler consists of only:
1 FILE
I'll show you exactly where that file needs to go inside your Subnautica 2 installation, then we'll launch the Experimental Build and test it.
Once you're in-game, simply press:
F2
This opens the Developer Area Enabler interface.
From there, you can use the mod's different options to expose and interact with development content that is normally hidden from players.
That includes parts of the upcoming Scorpius Trenches, along with things like:
✅ Hidden Axum alien buildings
✅ Unfinished facilities and structures
✅ Future progression locations
✅ Hidden developer notes
✅ Development markers
✅ Unreleased Scorpius terrain and objects
✅ Future vehicle locations
✅ Experimental story clues
✅ Objects that normally don't appear during regular gameplay
One of the coolest parts is being able to see the actual developer notes left around the world, which can reveal what different unfinished locations are intended to become.
These hidden objects have previously helped reveal things like the ruined Scorpius tar infrastructure, future Axum facilities, vehicle locations, the SeaFrog progression area, and other upcoming content.
In this Subnautica 2 mod tutorial I'll show you:
✅ Where to download Developer Area Enabler
✅ How to install the single mod file
✅ Where the file goes
✅ How to launch it in Experimental
✅ How to open the menu with F2
✅ How to enable the hidden developer area
✅ What the different features do
✅ How to explore unreleased Scorpius content
✅ How to reveal developer notes and hidden objects
✅ How to disable the developer layer again
⚠️ IMPORTANT
This mod exposes unfinished development content.
Anything you see inside the hidden developer area can be changed, moved, redesigned, or completely removed before reaching the normal version of Subnautica 2.
I strongly recommend using this for exploration and testing rather than treating anything inside as finalized content.
Huge thanks to Vast for making it much easier for the rest of us to poke around behind the curtain.
