There's an entire hidden developer base inside Subnautica 2 EA 1.2, stored inside a secret world data layer called:
Base Lighting Photo Tour
In this video I'll give you a full tour of the hidden base and show you how to reveal developer data layers yourself using the Subnautica 2 command console.
The base doesn't normally appear during regular gameplay.
Instead, it exists inside one of the hidden World Partition Data Layers used by the developers.
By manually activating the layer, we can make the entire developer setup appear inside the normal game world.
The command used is:
wp.Runtime.ToggleDataLayerActivation
You'll need to enter the command followed by the appropriate data layer name.
I'll show the exact command and layer name on screen so you can copy it directly.
You can also use:
wp.Runtime.ToggleDrawDataLayers
to display information about available and active world data layers.
In this video I'll show you:
✅ The hidden Base Lighting Photo Tour layer
✅ The developer base hidden inside it
✅ A complete tour of the base
✅ How Subnautica 2 Data Layers work
✅ How to reveal hidden developer layers
✅ The wp.Runtime.ToggleDataLayerActivation command
✅ How to toggle layers on and off
✅ How to inspect other hidden developer content
These Data Layers are essentially switches that allow different pieces of the world to be loaded, hidden, or activated independently.
That makes them incredibly useful during development because the team can keep things like test areas, blockouts, photography setups, unfinished objects, and other internal content separated from normal gameplay.
⚠️ IMPORTANT
This is developer/debug content.
Hidden layers may contain:
• Unfinished geometry
• Placeholder objects
• Broken collision
• Test content
• Developer-only setups
• Things that can change or disappear after updates
Save your game before experimenting with console commands.
Also remember that the normal EA 1.2 release does not expose the developer console by default, so you'll need a console-enabling method installed before entering these commands.
