Jeff and Sarah visited Fort Humboldt earlier this year to see where future President Ulysses S. Grant spent a miserable winter and spring of 1854.
He arrived in January 1854 separated from family and he loathed the place and felt like his service was wasted. Grant began to drink and left the Army because of it. He went on to greatness during the Civil War.
