Lightened Method + Max Effort Bench
The lightened method isn’t just for speed work—it works extremely well with the Max Effort Method, especially when combined with a pause.
Using bands to deload the bottom changes the strength curve of the bench press, reducing stress in the most vulnerable position while still allowing heavy loading through the mid-range and lockout. Add a pause and you remove momentum, increase stability demands, improve position control, and force more force production from a dead stop.
The pause builds starting strength. The lightened method manages joint stress. The heavy load drives adaptation.
This is a great option for lifters chasing strength while controlling mileage on the shoulders, pecs, and elbows over the long term. Train hard. Stay healthy. Keep lifting.
