Most lifters think technique is the problem. Often, technique is simply revealing a weakness.

Soviet sport scientists such as Yuri Verkhoshansky and Vladimir Zatsiorsky recognized that movement patterns in compound lifts are heavily influenced by an athlete’s strength capacities, mobility, stability, and structural limitations. The body will naturally shift load toward stronger muscle groups and away from weaker ones, creating compensations that are often mistaken for poor technique.

In this video, Matt Wenning explains why fixing weak links is often the fastest way to improve squat, bench press, and deadlift mechanics. Instead of endlessly cueing positions, identify the limiting factor, strengthen it, and allow the body to express better movement naturally.

Learn how targeted accessory work, exercise rotation, and intelligent programming can improve technique by addressing the underlying cause rather than just the symptom.
