This week we are building and coloring the contour bottom of the pit and adding the tricky ring rail.
The bottom of the pit is built up from Sheetrock mud and painted with craft paint. Dirt and cinders will cover the entire area, but I want to cover the white plaster as no doubt some small amount of the base will show.
The pit walls are extruded styrene foam and plywood layered with more perf-a-tape mud. painted as concrete and covered with a print of concrete wall. More weathering and texture will be added.
And the big part of this weeks project is the ring rail. This sits on about 100 short ties on top of a footing at the base of the pit wall. The rail is code 250 Llagas Creek rail formed into a 39" ring with a Llagas Creek rail bender.
