Ravens actually do tumble! .Often seen in courtship display, this magical image has prompted me to write this poem for the season .As a Celtic/Norse person, Halloween is not what I celebrate. Samhain is the Celtic way of giving thanks to mother nature for the harvest, and remembering all those we have loved and lost. We leave a door or window slightly ajar on this eve, for all the blessed souls to return, both animal and human a like, to join in the feast and celebrations. The raven is a very significant part of both Celtic and Norse beliefs too.
Tumbling raven, fall from the moon
Float down with the twilight clouds
Mingle and dance with the spirits on this eve
Swoop, dive, soar with silvered wingtips touching
Locking toes and cascading in the sky
Samhain, Samhain, this darkened night
Luna burn brightly, honour their eyes alight
Land on the branches, the ancient oak tree
Sway Neath the Goddess
The harvest is here in abundance
And the blessed souls have returned
Rest in this place Raven, that you have chosen
Join us with your grace
And rejoice!
