A quick little video of a North Carolina version of "True Thomas," also called Thomas Rhymer (Child 37). True Thomas has roots all the way back in the 13th century, but this version was one I picked up from the Frank C. Brown Collection of North Carolina Folklore. It was transcribed from a Mrs. Becky Gordon of Cat's Head, Sugar Loaf Mountain in Henderson Co., North Carolina. I only had the words to work with, so I gave it a tune that felt appropriate. The only Thomas Rhymer ballad I know of that's been collected in the U.S.!
