Happy almost Spring Equinox!
I call this song “Saffron Maiden”- it’s an invocation of the dawn goddess of Indo-European traditions, who has come to be known by names including Eostre, Saule, Aušrinė, Ushas, Ostara, Eos and Aurora. This parts song (lyrics below) invokes the goddess, through Her ever-widening travels across the sky in the spring, to bring the winter world back to life again. Singing a song like this one can connect us to practices of honoring Her that go back 6,000 years or more!
From mid-April to mid-June I’ll be teaching my class Singing the Wheel of the Year! This is a song-centered virtual course that explores the authentic ritual history of the quarter and cross-quarter days (the solstices and equinoxes + Samhain, Imbolc, Bealtaine and Lughnasadh) as they’ve been observed in the Anglo-Celtic Isles. Come learn the accurate history you’ve been seeking out, and explore a variety of new and traditional songs that you can carry in your own practice and teach others!
