Fixing a non performing oil pump while dropping the oil pan on a classic Mustang? This video walks you through it step-by-step so you can get your classic back on the road without a full shop or fancy tools.

In this episode we cover: trying to remove the oil pan on Project Mach 1 “Lazurus,” why we decided to replace the oil pump, the exact snag that stopped us cold, and asking YOU for the best way to get a stubborn pump off without breaking anything.

We set out to tackle what should’ve been a straightforward job on our Project Mach 1 we call Lazurus: drop the oil pan and swap the oil pump while we were in there.

The plan was simple:
✅ Replace the old pump with a standard Melling oil pump
✅ Install a new oil pump driveshaft
✅ Button it up and keep this build moving

But… we hit a snag that stopped us dead.

The oil pump is NOT cooperating, and we’re not about to start forcing parts on a classic engine without a plan. So we’re handing the mic to the pros:

How would YOU remove a stubborn oil pump?
What’s your safest method? What should we check first? Any tricks for getting it loose without damaging the block, pickup, or driveshaft?

Drop your best advice in the comments — we’ll try the top suggestions in the next episode.

It’s not a Problem, It’s a Project!
