Part 2! And another one yet to come!
Some time in 2022, I decided to get myself a mechanical calculator; you know, one of those impulse e-bay buys. It does work well enough when you are after restoration items, those come cheap enough.
Anyhow, the CRN-1 here is an East German model from the mid 1950s; it features all the regular mechanical calculator features I am aware of and - in addition - the "R" button. It is "CRN-1" after all, not "CN-1". And yes, that is literally the difference between the two models.
This video is part two out of three! The overall project is done, but I didn't want to cut out too much of the assembly process to make the second part into one video, nor did I want to create a 40 minute monster video;
The progress within this episode: Cleaning the parts and reassembling the two counter drums, as well as the underside of the base plate; I'm slso done with the input part of the mechanism: crank, +/- switch, input register display, reset lever and the counter drum are done by the end.
What's left? The counter drum and gearing as well as the output registers. Oh, and of course the case and two excample calculations in "adult" mode... that is to say, without any covers to peek at the mechanism.
