I can't deny that I love the original 1960s "Mission Impossible" TV series! It is probably one of the most influential series I've watched as a kid. And even back then, it was clear to me that almost all of the "gadgets" that they showed off were... let's say... "TV-magical". But I loved how they put things together and how versatile everybody in that team was.

That said, the mission briefing segments that mostly used reel to reel recorders became quite iconic over time. And to casual viewers: yes, not all missions/episodes had that recorder. Some used records and a select few even had cassette tapes! Also, some didn't start as official missions but had a team member get into trouble, so there was no briefing at all.

Either way, I just had to get myself one of these portable dictation devices! The one here was on e-bay for rather cheap, so I snatched it up last year and started restoring it early January...
