A short and gloomy but melodic piece, the last thing I wrote in 2018 and my final contribution to the Rebirth MIDI Pack, targeting MAP18.
I wrote this piece in about 6 hours on the night of 17 December, looking to smash out one more MIDI before the year's end. The university semester had already finished and so everyone had vanished, leaving me more or less by myself for about a week. Much as I try to power ahead and get as much work done as possible - I was doing quite a lot of work on The Final Judgement at this time - it inevitably left me in a bit of a darker headspace.
Well, whatever, this was the same week that I also made a start on my first track for Elementalism (The Call of the Dark Dream), which was for a map in the darkness episode, so that lined up pretty well. TCotDD and Sombre Visions are fairly different, the former is 10 minutes long and has some pretty heavy moments, but they both have a slow and mournful tone overall that were inevitably spawned from that week.
I'm pretty fond of SV, even if it's quite an understated piece next to my other Rebirth contributions. Once again I felt like my newfound music theory knowledge was starting to come in handy, particularly in the section starting at 1:49. It has been an easy remake, and I feel that the sound for what was the Echoes pad in the MIDI (the one GM instrument that has been a bigger pain in the ass with these remakes than all others put together) is better than ever, so I'm really happy about that!

Chronologically, "The Call of the Dark Dream" from Elementalism would be next, but as the project isn't released I'll be withholding it for now - in fact I still need to do a bunch of stuff with it anyway. So the next upload will actually be a double, and completely different: Two 90-second films I wrote music for university assignments in Spring 2019. See you all next time! \m/
