Hey everyone, here's a recent uni assignment of mine. I wasn't actually going to upload this because I didn't (and still don't to be honest) really feel it was up to scratch, but I've got nothing else to put up for the time being and it got a good grade, so I figured I may as well share it.
As you've probably already figured out, the assignment was world music and I went for Japan as my country of choice. The piece is for koto and shakuhachi, using the In scale (also known as the Sakura pentatonic scale). I tried to mimic the playing techniques of the koto as best as I could with a keyboard, and also aimed for a more minimalist arrangement with gaps of silence between phrases and sections.
I feel the piece started off well, but with this being a mostly last-minute job, I still get the sense I could have done so much more with it, but these days I see this as more of an opportunity to come back and revisit the style in the future to make something better.
Anyway, just wanted to keep the channel ticking over while I'm working on my EP, which will be out in April :) For those who don't know, I also stream on Twitch now (link below) where I'm currently writing MIDI mockups for the EP and will soon be moving on to the actual recording process. No schedule yet, it's still very much a 'whenever I feel like it' kind of deal at the moment.
