Hey everyone! Here's the remake of A Warrior Reborn, the fourth piece I wrote for the Rebirth MIDI Pack, and penultimate piece that was uploaded to the old channel.
Targeting Rebirth MAP21, I envisioned this piece as a more uplifting take on Doomguy returning to Hell; another day at the office, another day to slay demons. I also wanted the piece to be my analogue to Battle of Chaos from 2016's Revolution! MIDI Pack. Side note, it is so weird now to think that these two pieces were written less than a year apart... So the organ-dominated heavy rock/power metal vibes of BoC reappear here even though this piece isn't as crazy or intense in feeling.
An important aspect of AWR is that I wrote the solos by playing them first then replicating that in MIDI, so they wouldn't be too difficult for me to record two years later, I also filmed myself at the time playing those solos, which I put into the original video. I still had the original files, so I thought it'd be cool to include them here too alongside the new recordings.
I haven't aged a bit :)))
As the piece is quite easy, the rest of the recording was also pretty straightforward, except for one part at the end which took a bit more practice, I thought that would be a fun thing to actually play since it's there in the original MIDI too. See for yourself!
The mixing was not a good experience this time. I finished recording everything on 7th May. I'm writing this on the 27th, two years to the day since I wrote this piece and Indecision, and I declared it truly finished at 3am this morning. Every time I thought it was done, I'd find something I hated, usually to do with the organ sound. Finally I think I'm ok with it, and I'm basically uploading this a few days early to deter myself from going back to the mix for a seventh time. Really hope you all like it because good lord this drove me crazy!
Also, the Rebirth MIDI Pack is finally finished! There's a public beta available on Doomworld now, link to that at the bottom of the description (I'll replace it with the idgames link when that goes up). I've listened to all the other tracks, and everyone did a fantastic job with this one, very strong stuff all round, so be sure to check that out.
So, there goes the 39th remake, and now there's just one more piece left to complete the channel migration...
