Desert Treasure's main concept was to start small and gradually expand over the course of the track to a grand finale. The muffled start on this version was pretty much the very last thing I did on this track, because everything that needed to be there at the start was there, but now that it wasn't in General MIDI, it didn't really sound small or quiet so much as just unfinished, and of course adding more stuff would go against the whole idea behind the track, so I think given it was such a last minute change, the filters and compressed drums turned out really well for communicating the original intention in this format.
Throughout all my practice sessions before recording the instruments, this was always one of my favourites on the bass, it's such a simple part but especially towards the end of the track it's very satisfying to play because the low Cs just command so much power within all the grandiosity, and indeed as you can see, maybe I was enjoying myself too much when it came to filming these videos! Despite the mishap, I just about held it together so the video was still usable. Leave it in!™
Thank you for listening!
