Heading to Mexico? Then doubtless you’ll hear this song "La Bamba" which was adapted by teenager Ritchie Valens from a traditional huapango Mexican 1939 folk song EL Jarocho, originally from the state of Veracruz. The name of the dance, with no direct English translation, is presumably connected with the Spanish verb bambolear, meaning "to shake" or perhaps "to stomp". For Valens rock 'n roll version, it became a double-A sided singles’ hit with "Donna" released in 1968. Here it is sung by TRINI LOPEZ on "The Irish Rovers" 1981 TV Special WASN'T THAT A PARTY from Vancouver, Canada which he recorded for his debut double album "Trini Lopez at PJs". and released as a single in 1966, three years after the LP release.. In 1987 Los Lobos covered the song for the film "La Bamba" and it reached #1 on Billboard's Top 100 chart.

Para mi, para ti, ay arriba, ay arriba
Ay, arriba arriba
Por ti sere, por ti sere, por ti sere
Yo no soy marinero
Yo no soy marinero, soy capitan
Soy capitan, soy capitan
Bamba, bamba
Bamba, bamba
Bamba, bamba, bam
