Conway Twitty whose real name was Harold Lloyd Jenkins, got his stage name when checking a road map and he noticed the towns of Conway, Arkansas, and Twitty, Texas. In the 1950s he was a rock ‘n roll singer and had a hit with Lonely Blue Boy. Then in 1958 a song he and his drummer Jack Nance wrote in Hamilton, Ontario while on tour, was on the B-side of I’ll Try which went nowhere, till an Ohio deejay flipped it, and although it took time to climb the charts, It’s Only Make Believe made #1 on the USA Billboard pop chart and in 21 other countries! Conway always wanted to play country & western music and starting in 1965 he went on to have over 50 #1s on the Country music charts. Larry Gatlin and his younger brothers Steve and Rudy performed together since their childhood and, once they started recording, they had 33 Top 40 pop/country singles. In 1979 they became officially Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers, released the album Straight Ahead which included their classic #1 single, All the Gold in California on the Hot Country Songs list. .
