I had a request for some slitscan videos featuring people - which is a great idea. I don't have a lot of footage of people so I went looking through Archive.org. That place is a goldmine of video footage - most of which is Public Domain or with a Creative Commons license.
Here is a good example of a Time Offset slitscan effect. Pairing it with the original might give you a better chance of visualizing what is going on. After that mental leap you can maybe figure out why they are dancing around a bunch of kitchen appliances. (^_^)
The pixels on the far left of this craziness are what is happening 'now'
As you move to the right across the image, what you see is slightly delayed. At the far right what you see actually happened several seconds ago.
So each frame of this video contains information from a range of time - spread out across the frame. Things that don't move over that time will look normal - things that move will show their 'trail' through space.
