This week I look at the TI LED Boosterpack ( BOOSTXL-C2KLED ).
This incorporates 3 BOOST convertors to up the 12V supply to the 20V required for the 8 series RGB LEDS.
We have looked at various BUCK converters and Current Sense systems over the last few weeks, here is a board that pulls all that practical design into a useful product. One that can drive LEDs correctly (Constand Current) but also that can be adapted to drive other things like a Battery Charging circuits just as easily.
What makes this Launchpad / Boosterpack combo special is that all the control logic is performed in the C2000 launchpad (MPU). the only analog stuff outside the CPU is a few op amps and the FET / Inductor switching electronics.
This is a good demonstration that shows with the right MPU and minimal external hardware electronics you can build effective power management solutions that as there under software control can provide dynamic tuning and reaction to many fault situations and control issues not available to traditional analogue electronics.
You can find more info regarding the TI Boosterpack here:- ti.com/tool/boostxl-c2kled
and the required Launchpad for the demo here:- ti.com/tool/launchxl-f28027
This video would not have been made without the kind support of Texas Instruments who provided the boosterpack and Launchpad
