So this is my first non-VGM cover on my channel! It most likely won't be the last one I ever do, but will definitely be a rare thing.
If your are not familiar with Mr. Stephen Bruner's (Aka Thundercat) work, he is a virtuoso funk/jazz bassist. I've found myself completely enamored with his music since discovering his song "Them Changes" two summers ago (thanks r/listentothis). He released a new album called "Drunk" back in February and I've listened to it dozens of times. So many tracks on it that I absolutely love. 3AM and Lava Lamp are my favorites. I also had the pleasure of seeing him live last June in Portland, OR and it was an amazing show.
This arrangement was a tricky one to figure out. I had to cheat and use an alternate tuning to make some of the chords work. There are a lot of difficult finger-stretches to get the chords to play nicely with each other, but I think I more or less got it. My goal with this piece was to turn it into something that could be played on a single acoustic guitar (as is the case with most of my covers). If you listen to the original, you can tell that there is a lot more going on. I think he's using 2-3 bass tracks to play all the parts so I ended up omitting a couple of bits. In any case it was quite the challenge, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I have no plans to do a tab for this beast, but if you want to take a crack at it, the tuning is CGEFAB.
I hope you enjoy this little break from my normal content. My guess is it won't get a ton of views, but I just gosh darn love this song so much that I had to do it! I'm working on a new original song (with lyrics) and a new original instrumental. Also been kinda kicking around the idea of maybe tackling some anime covers in the future. What do you think about "Lilium" from Elfen Lied? Can't say for sure how I would pull that one off, but it's been on my mind.
