Finally! I’ve been out of commission for a while now, but I’m hoping to get back to a regular upload schedule starting with this video. Life’s been a little crazy for the last few months, but everything is settling down now.
There’s kind of a long story behind how this video came to be. Way back in January a gentleman by the name of FamilyJules7x put forth a challenge to any and all takers to make a 7 minute VGM medley in one week. I was already planning on doing Windfall Island so I decided to take on the challenge.
Part of my medley was an arrangement of Great Sea with lyrics. Now, it typically takes me at least a month come up with the lyrics for my covers so I really had to rush them. Long story short, my GS arrangement didn’t turn out nearly as good as I had originally planned. I had to scrap everything I had and do a watered down acoustic version just to get it done in time. With this video, I finally had the opportunity to take my time and do it right.
I originally envisioned this arrangement to be far more upbeat. It was the same tempo as the original song, but I decided to slow it down and give it a more Bluegrassy feel for this cover. I might revisit the upbeat version someday. Maybe if I ever start doing live performances...
I started a new job back in early August and it’s really been taking up my time! I’m still getting adjusted to the schedule, but as I said, things are settling down and I should be able to get back to producing videos regularly.
Also, I picked up a Rebel T3i and this is my second video using it. I’m still figuring it out, but it already makes a huge difference in video quality! I need to buy a lighting kit so that I can record any time. I usually rely on sunlight for lighting in my videos, but now that I’m at work during the day, it makes it difficult to record during the weekdays.
