KQED Food | This Oakland Diner Inspired a Graphic Novel 🥞 | KQED No Crumbs @KQEDFood | Uploaded March 2024 | Updated October 2024, 12 hours ago.
Maybe your local diner is amazing, but is it SO amazing that it has a 200+ page graphic novel about it? And a sequel?? We're convinced that the breakfast at Mama's Royal Cafe in Oakland has magical healing powers. After a late night of "festivities", nothing fixes us up again quite like catfish, grits, and a cheddar cheese scramble, made with the high quality ingredients that helped make this spot legendary. It doesn't hurt that the decor is also super cute and kitschy, with wooden booths, old jukebox speakers, and rows of vintage aprons hanging along the walls.

About No Crumbs:
No Crumbs host Josh Decolongon dives into the histories and mysteries of Bay Area food culture. Whether he’s explaining the difference between Mission and California-style burritos (spoiler alert: it’s the fries) or putting to bed a rumor that a beloved Lebanese diner in Emeryville inspired a certain Pixar film, No Crumbs will inspire new perspectives on the Bay Area food scene you thought you knew.
