Paige’s 1964 Chevelle ran a best pass of 12.52 at 108 mph during Rocky Mountain Race Week—and we built this car to go faster. With a 12.00 target for RMRW 2.0 and an 11-second goal for next year, the factory-style lap belts were no longer enough.
The first major safety upgrade is a custom 8.50-spec roll cage, built from straight 1-3/4-inch DOM tubing with a .120-inch wall.
Instead of using a universal off-the-shelf cage, we started from scratch with BradFab Garage and fitted every bar specifically to the Chevelle. The A-pillar down bars were the biggest challenge: they had to follow the shape of the pillars, preserve visibility, wrap around the dash, clear the footwell, and still allow comfortable entry and exit.
The finished cage includes swing-out door bars and a removable harness bar using tubing couplers. The result is a one-off cage that adds serious safety and chassis rigidity without taking over the interior. From the side profile, you can hardly tell a cage has been added—until the door opens and you start looking inside.
This cage is built to 8.50 specifications, but it is not being certified in this episode. Certification will happen later. A five-point harness installation is also coming in a future video.
