Welcome back to Sunday Morning and the Old Cookbook Show!
Today, we’re cooking from a Canadian Depression-era classic: Tasty Meals for Everyday, published in 1933 by Canada Packers Limited, the original makers of Maple Leaf products. These vintage corporate cookbooks were designed to promote household staples, and many of the products they featured—like the iconic chub-packaged breakfast sausage—are still on Canadian grocery store shelves today.

In this episode, we tackle a simple, satisfying, and very nostalgic dish: Baked Sausage with Noodles. Think of it as stuffing meets pasta bake—a comforting, budget-friendly casserole that uses pantry basics like sausage, noodles, milk, and breadcrumbs. We chat about the history of Maple Leaf Foods, how corporate recipe booklets shaped home cooking during the Great Depression, and the flavour science behind black pepper vs. white pepper.

Whether you're here for the recipe or the story behind it, stick around for a taste of the past and a dish that may not be glamorous—but is definitely moorish.
