On May 27, 2025, deputies in Southwest Florida responded after bystanders found a 12-year-old girl injured in the Cecil Webb Wildlife Management Area in Charlotte County. Investigators said the child identified 36-year-old Gwendolyn Girard, and authorities later located Girard and the vehicle in North Fort Myers. According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Girard later confessed and now faces charges including aggravated battery and aggravated child abuse.
