If consciousness is all there is, how was the world created?
Rupert explains: ‘If you have ever been to a 3D cinema, you will know that all you see on the screen without your goggles on is a fuzzy pattern. When you put your glasses on, suddenly you’re in the ocean and the fish are swimming by. The fish aren’t really there – they’re how the fuzzy pattern appears when you look at it through your glasses.
‘In the same way, when consciousness localises itself as a finite mind, through the faculties of thought and perception its own vibration appears as a universe in time and space. However, consciousness is not really creating the world – there is no world.
‘By saying that, I’m not denying the reality of the world . . . I’m upgrading it. I’m restoring the world, as (Italian film director Pier Paolo) Pasolini said, to its original sacred significance. It’s an elevation and a restoration of experience. The world is not made out of matter, it is made out of love.’
