Command Records was unlike any other label at the dawn of the stereo LP—and in this second episode of my deep dive series, I take you even further into its remarkable catalog.
Produced by Enoch Light, engineered largely by Robert Fine (of Mercury Living Presence fame), and mastered by George Piros, these records were built from the ground up with audiophile priorities in mind. Add in arrangements by Lew Davies, the very best New York studio musicians of the era, and you have a label that consistently pushed the limits of what vinyl could deliver.
In this episode, I walk through a dozen additional Command titles, highlighting the essential must-haves, identifying a few that are less compelling, and explaining why—both musically and sonically.
This isn’t just an audio journey, though.
