Revisiting The MOFI One Steps Part Two The Pressing Matters 2025-07-04 | Part Two of a survey through 15 Mobile Fidelity One Step titles in my collection.. Mobile Fidelity made quite a splash with the initial Mofi One Step release, Santana's Abraxas. I remember seeing it advertised and thought it was too much money! With advances in my reference system, I thought it would be interesting to do a quick revisit of what I have here. Bill Evans Moon Beams - Craft Original Jazz Classics The Pressing Matters 2025-06-26 | Moonbeams by The Bill Evans Trio is one of the most intimate, lyrical and emotionally resonant jazz albums of the 1960's - and in this video, I compare the brand new Craft Original Jazz Classics reissue with and earlier OJC cut in 1990.The new reissue is mastered in an all analog process from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearant. It is pressed on 180gm vinyl at RTI. The heavy duty gloss front tip on jacket is by Stoughton Printing.The earlier OJC release was remastered by Phil Delancy, possibly from a digital source.We'll look a bit at the history and importance of Moonbeams, recorded in 1962, shortly after the tragic loss od bassist Scott La Faro. Patricia Barber Modern Cool - Impex 2025 Vinyl Review The Pressing Matters 2025-05-08 | Impex Records IMP 6061 Patricia Barber Modern CoolImpex has done it once again, and given us a beautiful and most likely definitive edition of Patricia Barber's follow up to Cafe Blue, 1998's Modern Cool. This edition of Modern Cool features all the music of the original CD release, and is mastered from the digital master by Bernie Grundman, using his analog mastering console, and analog lathe. The record is spread out over two 33rpm 180gm discs, pressed at Fidelity, and utilizes the VR900-D2 vinyl formula to provide the ultra silent pressings. The gorgeous heavy duty Stoughton tip on gatefold is printed using a variety of processes, giving us the best presentation of Modern Cool.Late update: In a last minute update from Abey Fonn, she told me that engineer Jim Anderson has clarified the sourcing of the record. It is digitally recorded but mixed analog. The Mercury Living Presence catalog is full of fantastic recordings comprising large orchestral works, works for wind ensemble, organ recitals and piano music, both concertos and solo. The Mercury recordings feature a three microphone technique, which results in a wide dynamic range and a realistic, sometimes up front perspective. The Mercury Living Presence series is treasured among audiophiles, with original pressings fetching hundreds of dollars. In the early 2000s, the German company Speakers Corner reissued two dozen favorites from the Mercury catalog, many of them on The Absolute Sound Superdisc List. The Speakers Corner reissue series are all analog, beautifully pressed and presented with the iconic original artwork.Although the series is out of print, minty copies can still be found for a reasonable amount, not much more than currently available audiophile reissues. This record was originally released on Epic Records in 1968, at the tail end of the psychedelic era.The reissue of Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man is an all analog mastering, cut from the original master tape by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The record is pressed on 180gm vinyl at RTI, and housed in beautiful heavy duty single pocket jacket from Stoughton Printing, with a new four page card stock insert. The insert features new original design elements by Robeert Sliger, as well as an essay by historian Charles Granata.Hurdy Gurdy Man incorporates elements of folk, hard rock, psychedelic, and eastern music. The Pioneer RT-707 Reel To Reel Tape Deck - Tape To Disc Comparison The Pressing Matters 2025-03-28 | My beloved Pioneer RT-707 Reel To Reel Tape Deck had been dormant for several years. When I moved to my current location, I had declined to set it up. I knew it needed to be serviced to bring it back to life, and this recently came to pass! My audio dealer and good friend Oswaldo Martinez, of Let There Be Sound knew the Pioneer RT-707 could sound wonderful, if it had a good going over by an expert. That person was Jeffrey Ting, an avid fan of all things tape and a knowledgable technician, who decided to take up the challenge. Eight Great EMI Testament Classical Vinyl Reissues The Pressing Matters 2025-03-17 | Today, I have an introduction to the EMI Testament vinyl reissue series, largely drawn from the EMI Columbia and EMI Capitol labels. Featuring some of the greatest artists of the period from 1959-1962, this video will focus on four albums from violinist Leonid Kogan, one from violinist Micheal Rabin, two from Soprano Maria Callas and one from soprano Elizabeth Schwarzkopf. The label features all analog remastering, cut from the original master tapes, and reproductins of the original artwork and labels.Many of these records are extremely expensive in thier original first UK pressings, with the Kogan/Beethoven regularly selling for over $7000.00 for a near-mint copy. The availability is slowly drying up, but a number of these are still available at the original retail price of $34.95 from the audiophile retailers. It is the third studio album from David Crosby, Steven Stills, and Graham Nash. Today we take a look at this beautiful reissue which was cut at 45 rpm by Chris Bellman. The two record set is pressed at Quality Record Pressings, and housed in a deluxe Stoughton Jacket. I was able to compare the original pressing, and earlier cut at 33rpm by Chris Bellman for Rhino, and the new Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 release. Auditioning took place on the beautiful Perpetuum EbnerPE 6060 turntable, which is mounted with an Ortophon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge. Not only for its incredible beauty and elegance, but for its cost. The brush won the Product of the Year award in The Absolute Sound the year of it's launch, and has found its way into the hands of discerning audiophiles who demand the very best, not only in effectiveness, but in beauty of execution and meticulous attention to detail.The brush is designed by Rangel Vasev, and features a case made from a solid block of wood, which is hand finished to perfection. There are five different types of wood finishes available. It employs both carbon fiber and goat hair in an elegant and timeless design. Included is a stainless steel stylus brush. Swingle II - One Of The Most Enchanting Vinyl Records Ive Ever Heard! The Pressing Matters 2025-01-08 | Vinyl Obscurities is a series i started to highlight little known records that deserve your attention. This time we have a pretty rare one. It is titled Swingle II, and is a collection of English and French art songs sung by a group of eight voices - two sopranos, two contraltos, teo tenors and two basses. Works are by Vaughn Williams, Stamford, Britten and Elgar, as well as Debussy, Ravel, Saint Saens and Poulenc. The group is named after Ward Swingle.This record was recorded and released in the UK only. It is on RCA. Recording was made in 1976. This record has been in the back of my mind to bring to the channel, and I finally was inspired to do it. It's one of the most enchanting records I've ever heard. If you are not moved by Stamford's The Bluebird, you must be made of stone. Wonderful performances, rarely heard music, and great sound to boot. Add to that an excellent pressing and gorgeous glossy gatefold jacket and you have a record worth searching for.
