I was blown away not only by the audio quality but also by the variety of modern recordings, each carefully chosen to highlight a different aspect of what a high-end audio system can do.
From vocal realism to imaging and soundstaging, from deep bass to dynamic range and timbre, this 2-LP set (cut at 45 RPM using the DMM process) pushed my system to levels I didn’t know it was capable of.
The music itself is just as impressive as the sonics—making this essential listening for anyone who wants to push the boundaries of their existing setup.
If you want to hear your system perform like never before, this is one you don’t want to miss.

02:22 The Package
02:48 Musical and Sonic Highlights
09:29 Concluson
This record is a little more complex than My Space 24, but endlessly rewarding, both musically and sonically. Bianchini’s playing stretches across the full width of the stage, with clear separation between vibraphone and marimba, and a deep, powerful bass presence that grounds the performance beautifully.
As with all Birdbox releases, this is 100% all-analog, mastered with passion by Lorenzo Vela. the label’s founder and mastering engineer. The pressing is extremely limited — only 300 copies worldwide — making it not only a sonic treasure, but also a collector’s piece.
I’m a huge fan of both Birdbox Records and Alessandro Bianchini, and this release only deepens my admiration. If you’re into audiophile jazz, modern vibraphone and marimba, or boutique AAA vinyl, this is one you don’t want to miss.

In this video, I share memories of seeing Blue Öyster Cult live in my hometown, reflect on what makes the band such a unique force in rock, and take a close look at the jackets, labels, and inserts. I also discuss the mastering choices, pressing quality, and overall sound impressions of these two Speakers Corner reissues.
For audiophiles, vinyl collectors, and Blue Öyster Cult fans alike, this is a chance to revisit two of the band’s most beloved albums in excellent analog sound.

But is it really the best pressing of this legendary album?
I had access to a copy for only 24 hours, and I put it up against three other versions:
• CBS Half-Speed Master
• German ARS pressing
• Mobile Fidelity 33 RPM cut
This isn’t a full, meticulous shootout—it’s more of a casual but honest listening experiment. Still, I was able to form some impressions and come to a conclusion.
If you’ve ever wondered whether the MoFi One Step truly deserves its mythical status, or whether other (more affordable) pressings hold their own, this video is for you.

The records featured are:
• Amemiya – Summer Prayer – A stunning sonic journey through an astonishing array of percussion instruments.
• Beethoven – Appassionata (Direct-to-Disc, 45 RPM) – A masterfully captured performance with breathtaking dynamic range.
• Stockhausen – Zyklus (Direct-to-Disc, 45 RPM) – Avant-garde percussion at its most intricate and revealing.
• Check Up On Your Sounds Vol. 1 – Audio Symphony – A fascinating test record that’s as much art as it is utility.
Both the Beethoven and Stockhausen were recorded direct-to-disc and cut at 45 RPM — a rare pairing that ensures extraordinary fidelity. Add in the whisper-quiet Japanese pressings of this golden era, and you have a listening experience that still holds up as part of audiophile history.
Whether you remember chasing down Superdisc recommendations or you’re just discovering these records for the first time, this is a trip back to the golden age of high-end vinyl.

The centerpiece is the new 45 RPM all-analog reissue from Analogue Productions, mastered by Matt Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. I also take a deep listen to:
• A Monarch original pressing on A&M
• The Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Anadisq 200 reissue
• A vintage Nautilus Superdisc half-speed master
Rather than choosing a “best,” I explore the different mastering philosophies, EQ choices, and sonic textures that make each version worth hearing. If you’re a fan of Baez, or an audiophile chasing the ultimate pressing, this ones for you.

This isn’t just a review—it’s a call to support independent artists and labels keeping analog jazz recording alive in 2025. These small-batch vinyl productions are created with passion, skill, and an uncompromising dedication to sound quality.
MySpace 24 was recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely in the analog domain, and the musicality is just as compelling as the fidelity.
Let’s support the musicians who are alive and working today, and the labels like Bird Box Records that give them a platform.
Drop a comment if you’ve heard this release or if you’re exploring other new all-analog jazz projects!

Recorded at the legendary Kingsway Hall by Decca’s Kenneth Wilkinson, this recording is an audiophile favorite for a reason. I compare three distinct pressings of this iconic album:
-An original “Shaded Dog” 1-S pressing
-The Classic Records reissue, mastered by Bernie Grundman
-The RCA Victrola “Plum Label” edition
Each offers a different take on the sonic presentation—some more successful than others. I also weave in personal reflections, and reference commentary from trusted classical vinyl experts, offering both an emotional and technical view on what makes a pressing stand out.
Whether you’re deep into RCA Living Stereo collecting or just discovering the magic of these 1960s Decca-engineered recordings, this video will help you decide which pressing is worth chasing—and which one to avoid.
Which of these do you own? Have you heard this recording on any other format? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

This album is a pure analog experience, recorded live in the studio directly to ½” 30 ips analog tape, with no overdubs. It’s a showcase of real-time musicianship and sonic integrity that’s increasingly rare in modern jazz recordings.
Featuring an all-star lineup—Bill Frisell on guitar, Tony Scherr on bass, and Rudy Royston on drums—Cheek leads a session that’s intimate, expressive, and deeply immersive. These are musicians at the top of their game, captured with exceptional clarity and warmth.
The edition under review is a numbered One-Step pressing, limited to just 500 copies, and expertly pressed at Gotta Groove Record Pressing, known for their high-quality vinyl output. This pressing will appeal not just to jazz lovers but to audiophiles seeking top-tier analog sound.
Keepers of the Eastern Door is available in multiple formats, including vinyl, CD, digital streaming, and even reel-to-reel tape—a nod to both old-school fidelity and modern accessibility.
Whether you’re a vinyl collector, a hi-fi enthusiast, or a serious jazz fan, this is a release worth paying attention to. Tune in for the full breakdown of sound, pressing quality, and musical impact.

The new reissue is mastered in an all analog process from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearant. It is pressed on 180gm vinyl at RTI. The heavy duty gloss front tip on jacket is by Stoughton Printing.
The earlier OJC release was remastered by Phil Delancy, possibly from a digital source.
We'll look a bit at the history and importance of Moonbeams, recorded in 1962, shortly after the tragic loss od bassist Scott La Faro. With Chuck Isreals on bass and Paul Motian on drums, this was Bill Evans return to the studio - and the result is a stunning collection of ballads filled with space, nuance and reflection.
Whether you're a jazz fan, audiophile of vinyl collector, this one's for you.

The first is the 1958 Decca release featuring L’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande conducted by Ernest Ansermet, a conductor closely associated with Stravinsky himself. The second is the Mercury Living Presence recording with the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Antal Dorati, known for its powerful dynamics and vivid stereo imaging.
Both of these recordings are considered classics by audiophiles and collectors, but how do they hold up in a head-to-head listening comparison? I dive into the sonic details, pressing quality, and overall musical impact to find out which one truly captures the fire and beauty of Stravinsky’s masterpiece.
🎧 Whether you’re a vinyl lover, classical music fan, or just curious how different interpretations of the same piece can dramatically shift the experience, this shootout has something for you.

I compare the pressings not just for audio quality, but also for interpretation and historical value. Whether you’re into classical vinyl, hi-fi gear, or vintage records, this deep-dive shootout is for you. Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture has been recorded countless times in the golden age of stereo recording. In this video I look at six different performances of this composition, and attempt to find my favorite.
Included are preformances of the Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture from Fritz Reiner with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Antal Dorati with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, Kenneth Alwyn with The London Symphony Orchestra, Erich Kunzel with the Cinncinati Symphony Orchestra and Morton Gould.

The new Analogue Productions reissue of Jethro Tull Benefit, has been mastered from the US and UK master tapes by Matt Luthans at The Mastering Lab, cut on two 45rpm discs pressed on 180gm vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, and housed in a beautiful gatefold jacket by Stoughton Printing. This new edition contains a bonus track that only appeared on th UK release.
In this video, I compare it to two US pressings - an original Reprise label copy and the Chrysalis pressing that came later.

Impex has done it once again, and given us a beautiful and most likely definitive edition of Patricia Barber's follow up to Cafe Blue, 1998's Modern Cool. This edition of Modern Cool features all the music of the original CD release, and is mastered from the digital master by Bernie Grundman, using his analog mastering console, and analog lathe. The record is spread out over two 33rpm 180gm discs, pressed at Fidelity, and utilizes the VR900-D2 vinyl formula to provide the ultra silent pressings. The gorgeous heavy duty Stoughton tip on gatefold is printed using a variety of processes, giving us the best presentation of Modern Cool.
Late update: In a last minute update from Abey Fonn, she told me that engineer Jim Anderson has clarified the sourcing of the record. It is digitally recorded but mixed analog. The correct symbol on the jacket should be DAAA.

The reissue of Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man is an all analog mastering, cut from the original master tape by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The record is pressed on 180gm vinyl at RTI, and housed in beautiful heavy duty single pocket jacket from Stoughton Printing, with a new four page card stock insert. The insert features new original design elements by Robeert Sliger, as well as an essay by historian Charles Granata.
Hurdy Gurdy Man incorporates elements of folk, hard rock, psychedelic, and eastern music. The record was produced in 1968, and was influenced by Donovan's trip to India with The Beatles. Mystical themes, chant and drone are used effectively. The title track features a harder edged sound thanks to the guitar solo by Jimmy Page

This was done on my own system, which is listed below, and at a special listening session on a much different system. The listening session was arranged by Harry Weisfeld of VPI Industries, with two of his friends, the host, Rich, and Leslie Brooks, who provided some fantastic tapes to listen to.
I want to thank all three gentleman, and of course Oswaldo for inviting me to this special meeting. It was so much fun!
Watch until the end to see what the results were!
The Rhino reissue of Tracy Chapman's debut album is mastered from an analog tape that was done at the time by Robert Ludwig. The new cut was done by Bernie Grundman. This does not mean that is is an AAA reissue however. The original recording of Tracy Chapman was recorded and mixed digitally. The pressing and packaging are beautifully done and the reissue comes in at $24.95.
The reissue is available worldwide.
Thank you To John Deuble who provided the original pressing of Tracy Chapman for me to use in my review
Update: It has come to my attention than the early pressing described in the video is actually a Columbia Record Club pressing from 1988.

The cables chosen to rewire my system come from Audio Art Cable. Working with the founder of Audio Art, Rob Fritz, I was able to address an area in my system that was being overlooked. After several consultations, we chose products from different levels, each ideally suited to its application within the system. This is a complete loom of cables that include power cords, interconnects and speaker cable. Today I show you what was chosen with some brief information about each cable.
The Audio Art Cables chosen include:
Audio Art Cable Classic Plus Cryo AC Cables with Gold Plated Furtech Plug Set
Audio Art Cable e2.2 Cryo Interconnect Cables with Gold Plated Furtech RCA Connectors
audio Art Cables IC-3 Classic Interconnect Cable Gold Plated RCA Connectors
Audio Art Cable SC-5 ePlus Cryo Speaker Cable with Gold Plated Banana Connectors
All cables were treated to various periods of burn-in on the audiodharma Cable Cooker conditioning service.
A big thank you goes to Anthony Kershaw, Publisher and Editor of Audiophilia for his advice, and for getting the ball rolling on this project, and of course to Rob Fritz for his time, expertise, and generosity in every aspect of this upgrade.

K.D. Lang's second solo album, Ingénue has just been reissued for the first time in a AAA cut from the master tape. The new reissue is mastered from the original analog master tape by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. This edition of Ingenue employs the One Step process and is pressed at RTI on 180gm High Definition Vinyl. The gatefold jacket and slipcase are from Stoughton Printing.
K. D. Lang's Ingénue was released in 1992. There was a vinyl issue released in Europe at the time, but most countries had to content themselves with the CD or cassette tape versions. Although it was recorded to analog tape, that record and of course the CD were from digital. The recording was
made at Vancouver Studios by Greg Penny and Marc Ramaer.

Part of this video is, of course, the tape to disc comparisons of Simon & Garfunkel's Bookends, and Bruno Walter's Beethoven Symphony No. 6 "Pastoral. However there is another element to it as well - a mystery tape prepared by Oswaldo that blew my mind.

Many of these records are extremely expensive in thier original first UK pressings, with the Kogan/Beethoven regularly selling for over $7000.00 for a near-mint copy. The availability is slowly drying up, but a number of these are still available at the original retail price of $34.95 from the audiophile retailers. I do not expect to see all analog reissues of this material again, making this video both timely and important.

Today, a spur of the moment video idea came out of a listening session with one album in this survey. I was so taken with it, that I decided to pull a selection of albums from some of the most famous composers and artists in experimental avant-garde and electronic music from that 1950's to the 1980's. Many are important and groundbreaking works of audio art.
Experimental avant garde music encompasses early experiments with magnetic tape manipulation, environmental sounds, percussion, poetry, voice, noise, minimalism, and manipulation of traditional instruments, as well as creation of new instruments.

One of the most anticipated releases in the Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series of vinyl reissues is the 1977 album from Crosby Stills & Nash simply titled CSN. It is the third studio album from David Crosby, Steven Stills, and Graham Nash. Today we take a look at this beautiful reissue which was cut at 45 rpm by Chris Bellman. The two record set is pressed at Quality Record Pressings, and housed in a deluxe Stoughton Jacket. I was able to compare the original pressing, and earlier cut at 33rpm by Chris Bellman for Rhino, and the new Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 release. Auditioning took place on the beautiful Perpetuum EbnerPE 6060 turntable, which is mounted with an Ortophon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge. The rest of the system is listed at the bottom of this description box.
Please take a moment to read the written review at audiophilia.com/reviews/2025/2/22/crosby-stills-nash-csn-1977-analogue-productions-atlantic-75-45rpm-reissue-2025 for the full picture of this wonderful record.

The brush is designed by Rangel Vasev, and features a case made from a solid block of wood, which is hand finished to perfection. There are five different types of wood finishes available. It employs both carbon fiber and goat hair in an elegant and timeless design. Included is a stainless steel stylus brush. The casing uses magnets to close the brush tightly, and also to hold the stylus brush in the lid. A felt and cork cleaning pad is included to remove dust from the brush after each use. All units are serial numbered, and can be refurbished, if necessary, at any time in the future.
Though it is one of the more expensive brushes on the market at $375.00 US, the value is there for those who appreciate fine design and craftsmanship. when you consider how often we interact with a record brush, and the value of what we are protecting, the cost suddenly seems more reasonable. It's a lifetime investment, a brush that will provide many years of use and pride of ownership.

Yes Fragile- Exploring Eight Different Pressings - youtu.be/kiHzarmsS2o
In that extensive comparison of eight pressings of Fragile, I came to the conclusion that the 2016 cut that Kevin Gray did at Cohearant was the most balanced mastering of all 8 copies. If you're interested in purchasing what I felt was the best 33rpm cut, this is the one:
Yes Fragile, 2016, Kevin Gray - amzn.to/4hjIB09

Today, I compare the 2016 to the new Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series Vinyl Series reissue, also cut by Kevin Gray, this time at 45rpm.
It is a two record set, pressed on 180gm vinyl by Quality Record Pressings and housed in a beautiful heavy duty Stoughton Printing gatefold jacket with separate art booklet included. The first 2,000 pressings are numbered editions.
The Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series vinyl reissue of Yes Fragile is available from Acoustic Sounds - store.acousticsounds.com

LSC-2575 - Chopin Piano Concerto No.1 - Arthur Rubinstein - New Symphony Orchestra of London conducted by Stanislaw Scrowaczewski
In this video, I compare two different pressings of the classic RCA Living Stereo title:
RCA Victor LSC-2575, Shaded Dog label, Indianapolis pressing, 1S/1S stampers.
Analogue Productions RCA Victor Living Stereo Series. 180gm pressing, mastered from the original master tapes by Ryan K. Smith, pressed at Quality Record Pressings, and housed in a high-gloss heavy-duty Stoughton tip-on jacket.

This record was recorded and released in the UK only. It is on RCA. Recording was made in 1976.
This record has been in the back of my mind to bring to the channel, and I finally was inspired to do it. It's one of the most enchanting records I've ever heard. If you are not moved by Stamford's The Bluebird, you must be made of stone. Wonderful performances, rarely heard music, and great sound to boot. Add to that an excellent pressing and gorgeous glossy gatefold jacket and you have a record worth searching for. If anyone finds this and doesn't love it, I need a backup copy!!
You can hear the performance from this recording of The Blue Bird here:
youtu.be/VGHtIgpW5No?si=CvuXaDV9i8Q6L-wO
The audio quality on this stream is far below what you hear on the record.
If I can, I will have Oswaldo Martinez capture a high resolution digital file from my system soon.
