The Tiger I, officially designated the Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E, was one of Nazi Germany’s most famous tanks during World War II. Introduced into combat in 1942, the Tiger combined exceptionally thick armor with the powerful 88mm KwK 36, allowing it to destroy many Allied tanks at long ranges while remaining difficult to penetrate from the front. However, the Tiger was expensive, mechanically complex, and demanding to maintain. Although its battlefield capabilities made it a dangerous opponent and experienced crews could achieve impressive results, the Tiger could not compensate for Germany’s growing shortages of fuel, equipment, and trained personnel.
