THE SOUL EXCHANGE
Original music and lyrics by Glen Clark
Inspired from reading about the life of David Bowie and how some of his record labels treated him (and no doubt many other musicians).
The premise of the song is an organisation called "The Soul Exchange" who can provide everything that a person could possibly want in life...albeit at a price.

The Technical stuff...
Recorded, mixed and mastered entirely in Garageband on MacOS.
I recently bought a new Ibanez 12 String acoustic and was keen to use that to form the basis of the sound.
I recorded it on two tracks simultaneously into my Behringer UMC204HD interface, one DI and the other through my Rode NT1A. There are 10 acoustic tracks altogether, spread between my 6 string and the 12 string.
The lead break during the instrumental was played on both my 6 and 12 string acoustics. I then added the Blue Cat Audio Chorus plugin set to Wet Vibe to give a disconcerting warble to the sound.
The drum track is deliberately simple but is actually made up of 5 separate tracks from a snare drum to various orchestral percussion and tambourine hits - all timed together. I've also taken a different approach and panned it slightly to the left - balancing the acoustic guitar riff on the right. In saying that, I have used an Autopan plugin which moves the sound of the drum back and forth between channels slightly. I expect this would probably be more noticeable through headphones.
Rounding out the instruments is my electric bass and some bass synth swells played via my iPad Pro and Logic Remote. There's also a very brief appearance by an Erhu in the final verse.
Vocally, I've gone over the top once again (surprise, surprise). While there's only one Lead vocal track, there are 4 other tracks adding colour every once in a while.
There are then a further 12 backing vocal tracks. Some singing harmony parts and other singing Aaahs.
Plugin-wise, it's mostly all stock plugins apart from the Kazrog True Iron (Transformer emulator), the Blue Cat Audio Chorus and the Melda Production MAutopan.
Chords are really simple (lyrics are below in the comments);
Verse: Am, A5, Em
Chorus: F, G, Em, Am
Bridge: C, Em, Am
The video was recorded on my iPad using the video star app. Some additional green screen and still frame stuff were done using the Werble app and the whole lot was compiled in iMovie.
