Here is the 4th video in this series, taken from a two day recording session last week - 10 Shadows tracks for one of my band's new albums.
This is a track full of energy and it's great fun on drums. The snare placement in the 'verses' is unusual and gives the whole thing a real bouncy feel. It's quite challenging in many respects - keeping the shuffle feel going, those 'ands' on the snare, the tom accents that I choose to play, plenty of cymbal accents in all sorts of places, and of course a few exciting fills. I admit that I am not entirely copying what Brian Bennett did - I've kind of added a few of my own things over the years. I was told by a very good friend (and Shadows aficionado) that I should feel free to put my own twist on these drum parts, so hopefully I'm getting away with it! I've always enjoyed this track and it goes down a treat live.
The backing track is original Shadows, with the drums (mostly) removed. So what you hear on this video is 95% my drums, and just a few artefacts from the original drums. I used XTrax Stems II software. Please listen with quality headphones if you can!
More tracks from this session on their way - FBI, Apache, Footapper, Kon Tiki, Man of Mystery, and hopefully Savage (depends how it works out!). I hope you enjoy.
Drum Tec Pro Series shells, Pearl Mimic Pro module, ATV Artist cymbals, Porter & Davies BC Gigster.
