I never got around to uploading a video showing the drum part recorded for the iGenesis Cage medley, so thought I would do it now - using the iGenesis audio rather than the original Genesis tracks!
Unfortunately the side view camcorder was not a HD recording, so I have used the overhead HD camcorder as the main view instead. You should still be able to make out the bass drum work during the horrendous 'raindrops keep falling on my head' sections! And you get to see my increasingly bald head in full HD :-)
I must confess that I have made a slight adjustment to the original iGenesis mix - I turned the drums up, so we can all hear 'em a bit more!!!! :-)
I find this an exceptionally difficult part to play. Very intricate, and requires a lot of concentration. I find the bass drum stuff at 'raindrops' really, really hard, especially as you have to try and keep the hat (and later the ride bell) going as quarter notes. It's a lot easier if you play 8s, but it should be quarters! I find that if I keep my left foot bouncing on the hat in 8s in this bit, it seems to help me keep the bass drum in time - I always get exhausted playing this bit and my bass drum can easily die a death! Personally, I find 'Cage' more physically demanding than 'Duke's Travels'.
This is a Roland TD20-KX kit, and I am using it to trigger NDV Drum Masters 2 software - specifically a vintage Premier kit as used by Chester. I think it sounds great, apart from that first tom, which I don't like. I'm still trying to get that to sound right, 6 months later on the Duke recordings!
For those of you waiting for the iGenesis Duke Suite - it is almost ready. In the meantime, I will be uploading a preview of Turn It On Again next week.
