So during Aang’s painstaking search for his lost friend Appa, you probably remember, Team Avatar coming across this inconspicuous old man simply sweeping out his sheds. The crew believed Appa had passed through there, and the man pretty much confirms this, saying that he had been shipped to Whaletail island, all the way on the other side of the world.

Well, surprisingly this guy was actually straight up lying because he was an undercover Agent of the Dai Li, who directly served Long Feng.
Toph completely failed at detecting the lie from this man, even though she did the same with Jet, not that long before. This however was a very a very good reason. Old Sweepy was one of the best liars and manipulators in the Dai Li, trained by the very best. In fact for a long time, he served as the top Dai Li Agent in the Upper Ring of Ba Sing Sei, spreading fake news on behalf of Long Fent whenever ordered to.
Sadly however, one day he completely botched an assignment given to him by Long Feng, so he was reassigned to the Lower ring, and forced to go undercover as a janitor called Old Sweepy.
