In this video clip, I was visiting the Waliguan Baseline Observatory which sits at an altitude of 3816 meters on the Tibetan Plateau in western China.
I was visiting the station as part of my role hosting the National Geographic documentary, Road to Carbon Neutrality, which focused on how China was trying to combat climate change.
Monitoring stations like these are vital in tracking atmospheric gases, especially those connected to climate change.
The trends are worrying.
According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), "Global climate predictions show temperatures are expected to continue at or near record levels in the next five years, increasing climate risks and impacts on societies, economies and sustainable development."
