The land is barren and parched along the road between Wuwei and Zhongwei, in northern-central China.
The morning was spent passing through dry and sandy farmland. Flat, exposed and windy. A tough life for the locals.
We kept spotting Great Wall watchtowers which seemed to keep lifting our spirits evey time we saw one.
As lunch approached we joined a main road connecting Gansu to Ningxia which was filled with thousands of trucks. Nerve wracking as they passed so close again and again.
But eventually, on the edge of Zhongwei, we saw the spectacular Yellow River and Tennger desert. Sunset views. An amazing end to a big day.
