Col. Thomas Monstery is well known these days for his pugilism and walking cane self defense for ladies and gentlemen. He has also published an article about the use of the quarterstaff and gave - not unusual to highlite the topic - a questionable history of the origin of the greatsword, because it should be connected to the quarterstaff.
nota bene: this is just a fun fact from the 19th cent., it is obviously not the truth.
