In the early 20th cent. there were not only one school of Savate or better Savate - Boxe Française.
Many know old videos of the Charlemont style, but there were also the Julian Leclerc school of a more direct form of fighting in the ring as well as it were used by members of the "Defense de la rue" - movement like Jean Renaud, or Emile Andre for their self-defense system in the streets of Paris around 1900.
Emile Andre wrote two books about self-defense from which "100 ways to defend yourself without weapons" is the most known today.
