We present bgproutes.io, a new platform designed to collect BGP routes from operational routers and make this data accessible to both network operators and researchers for real-time and historical analysis.
bgproutes.io introduces new paradigms in both route collection and data storage, addressing critical limitations observed in existing public platforms such as RIPE RIS, RouteViews, and PCH. These limitations include

- Visibility gaps as current platforms only collect data from less than 2% of Autonomous Systems (ASes)
- Data management challenges: The vast volume of BGP data collected is expensive to store and difficult for users to analyze efficiently.

bgproutes.io tackles these issues with a redesigned architecture:

- Open peering policy & streamlined setup: bgproutes.io has an open peering policy and provides a user-friendly web interface that simplifies session setup, making it easier for more ASes to join and contribute.
- Unified access to all BGP data: In addition to operating its own route collection infrastructure, bgproutes.io also integrates data from other public platforms (including RIPE RIS, RouteViews, PCH, and CGTF), consolidating everything into a single, consistent data repository.
- Efficient BGP data compression: Our custom lossless BGP compression algorithms drastically reduce storage requirements, allowing bgproutes.io to peer with an order of magnitude more routers than traditional platforms.
- Fast, intuitive API: bgproutes.io offers a flexible API that delivers only the data users need, quickly and without the need to download or parse massive MRT archives.

In this talk, we will introduce the bgproutes.io platform, walk through the design principles and technical innovations behind it, and demonstrate through real-world use cases how valuable the platform, its data, and its API can be useful for both network operators and researchers.
