The Seattle Community Network (SCN) project (seattlecommunitynetwork.org/) is a non-profit community-run internet access initiative to improve digital equity for vulnerable and low-income groups in the Puget Sound area. Our ongoing projects focus on installing and managing WiFi networks at Tiny House Villages and other homeless shelters. We also refurbish and distribute internet access devices such as laptops and phones at homeless shelters and low-income housing. In this talk I will briefly outline a vision for this organization, to bridge computer experts and hackers who are able to spend time and resources volunteering for community technology initiatives with low-income communities who have been left behind in terms of digital infrastructure.
