Behind the Boards; VERMILLION RED

A look at BTS of Matt Delisi BRAINCHILD VFX's process for creating VERMILLION RED.

This project started as an experiment, with wanting to merge live action with miniatures and CG, and push it until it felt like something in between.

The sets are a mix of:
– a vintage dollhouse Matt found an hour out of town
– 3D printed buildings
– hand-carved foam landscapes

The character is fully CG, driven by motion capture, then posterized frame by frame to give it that stop motion feel.

Everything lives in that in-between space.
Real, but not quite. Digital, but not clean.
That tension became the look of the film.

No AI was involved in the making of the film.
