Join Caleb Bishop, one of our geoscientists and a recent ANU PhD graduate, on a journey back to 635 million years ago to one of the most extreme periods in Earth’s history, when vast ice sheets covered much of the planet and complex life had yet to emerge.

In this presentation Dr Bishop reveals the discovery of ancient biomarkers from the Officer Basin in Western Australia, an indicator for life that survived beneath the ice during this frozen chapter of Earth’s history. Dr Bishop will explain how these findings are reshaping our understanding of the rise of algae and the eventual emergence of animals.
